National Galleries of Scotland

One of Edinburgh's hidden gems, the Scottish National Portrait Gallery occupies an inspiring and beautifully crafted Gothic building. And its collection extends to over 300.000 pieces of portraiture and art from the last five centuries.

We were tasked to develop campaign and fundraising materials for a bold and imaginative re-development and definition of the Gallery.

So we created a simple device - a containing letter 'N' - to support an overall theme of 'Portrait of the Nation'. We developed an identifying logotype. And we commissioned a suite of images to capture the spirit and history of the nation through the juxtaposition of current gallery visitors and their favourite pictures.

Portraits within portraits, effectively.

Launched in June 2008, a public campaign will kick off later in 2009.
